VLADISLAV DELAY - drums, live electronics

The multifaceted musical personality of Sasu Ripatti has converged over time in various projects and collaborations, from the abstract experimentation of the Vladislav Delay Quartet, to the alluring radio animosity of Luomo. Under the pseudonym Vladislav Delay, Uusitalo, Luomo, Conoco, Sistol, from ambient to broken beat, from glitch to groove, to soulful house music, Ripatti has produced countless works and cooperated with many artists including Scissor Sisters, Craig Armstrong, AGF, Black Dice, Massive Attack, Alva Noto, Towa Tei, Ryuichi Sakamoto.
Taking it to the extreme, in a schizophrenic dyad lies his main project Vladislav Delay, anxious search for the unheard through experimentation and creation of sounds, and his side project Luomo, that nods to the dancefloor.
The rhythm is the tissue connecting all productions released under this or that pseudonym. He is a self-proclaimed electronica percussionist, since research on the possibilities of the beat is what characterizes him the most. His musical history began as a teenager with the study of the drums, which he quit (relatively) when he found he could not add anything new to the crystallized universe of jazz. After this, the economical crisis and travels around the world, the vision of others and awareness, as well as the breakdown into new forms, more or less experimental, of that very musical background.

GIOVANNI GUIDI - piano
Born in Foligno, Italy, in 1985, Giovanni Guidi first showed interest in music at the tender age of three. At twelve, he began to study the piano. During his studies at the summer masterclasses in Siena, he caught the attention of Enrico Rava who later asked him to join the group Rava Under 21, and subsequently Rava New Generation. It was with this later incarnation that Guidi appeared on a nationally distributed bonus CD for magazine L’Espresso. In addition to the continuing collaboration with Rava (PM Jazz Lab and Quintet)  he performs in Gianluca Petrella’s Cosmic Music Orchestra, Fabrizio Sferra Trio and leads groups of his own.
Guidi has performed in a number of important festivals, including Umbria Jazz, Villa Celimontana Jazz, Ubi Jazz, Vicenza New Conversation, Zurich Nu Jazz, Fandango Jazz, Umbria Jazz Balcanic Windows, Stavanger Mai Jazz, Vigo Jazz, North Sea Jazz, Le Mans, Portland Jazz, San Francisco Jazz and in other venues worldwide. With his quartet, featuring three other young jazz musicians: Dan Kinzelman on woodwinds, Stefano Senni on bass, and drummer Joao Lobo, Guidi demonstrates his talents as a pianist and composer. The Giovanni Guidi Trio released a CD for Japanese label VENUS, Tomorrow Never Knows, which received five stars in a recent review by the Swing Journal. In February 2007 the CD Indian Summer was released by CAM JAZZ. In 2008 he released The House Behind This One, and in July 2009 The Unknown Rebel Band. His third CD for CAM Jazz marks his debut in directing a larger ensemble. The result is a record of startling intensity, successfully balancing moments of pronounced lyricism with influences from free jazz, a continuing source of inspiration for the young pianist from Foligno. In October 2011 the Enrico Rava quintet, of which Guidi is now a fundamental part, released the cd Tribe. In December 2011 he recorded a new album with Thomas Morgan and Joao Lobo, due for release next fall with prestigious label ECM.
